I could write so much about what I've been doing & where I've been, but honestly I just don't have the time right now. I will say that last February I started a new part-time job working for an amazing not-for-profit organization in their kitchen store. Fast forward a couple of months & part-time had turned much more than part-time. Fast forward a few more months & they moved me over to work in their vintage boutique where part-time became full-time & everything else in my life pretty much fell by the wayside (including my beloved Etsy shop & blog).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I will dedicate a post to my new job very soon because it is an amazing organization where I get to work with the most amazing people & everything we do benefits some pretty awesome causes! For now, I am trying to take a little time over the summer months to see my nieces more & get my house in order & my Etsy business back on track.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
To help with this I must give in to change & lately I have been noticing that Instagram is where the vintage sellers are. My personal account is <a href="http://instagram.com/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">BlissAndVinegar</a>, & I recently made a new account just for my vintage business at <a href="http://instagram.com/bliss_and_vinegar" target="_blank">Bliss_And_Vinegar</a>.</div>

As you can see I am having a giveaway on my Instagram business account to help gain followers so that I can offload some of this superfluous vintage awesomeness I have clogging up Bliss & Vinegar Vintage's Headquarters (aka my office)! So all you have to do is follow my IG account, share that photo, tag my shop name (@bliss_and_vinegar) & #bvvintage150. When I reach 150 followers, I will do a drawing & the winner will get a little package in the mail that includes this adorable 1960s floral puppy notebook & a lovely Fire King tulip cup & saucer set (plus a bar of my favorite chocolate, a box of my favorite tea & one of my very favorite writing pens).<br />
<br />
So come find me on Instagram & enter to win some free awesome stuff. Okay!Poppyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00287900512371464702noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389397200851419555.post-72543394713579501592012-10-31T13:51:00.000-07:002012-10-31T13:58:49.050-07:00Happy Halloween!Packing, packing, packing. Let me say that moving out of a house you've lived in for 8 years is a tough job. It's even tougher when you sell vintage on Etsy! Egads. We got a house in Chico, I am over the moon with excitement. The moving part though, guh!<br />
<br />
I am only sad that I didn't get to unpack any of my Halloween boxes this year, those are my very favorite boxes. To unpack it just to pack it back up immediately was too much extra work, especially since I start a new job on Friday. Gonna be a team lead at Hickory Farms over the holidays for some extra money. A vegetarian sausage slinger, purveyor of pepperoni, pimper of smoked cheese product!<br />
<br />
It will be fun (& I'm sure <b>not at all</b> stressful) being out amid the holiday shoppers again. It has been a few years, I am spoiled by e-commerce & conducting customer service in my jammies.<br />
<br />
So, I'm packing & listening to my favorite Halloween music, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RXFSD8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001RXFSD8&linkCode=as2&tag=blivin-20">Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire :: Thrills</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=blivin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B001RXFSD8" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" />at the moment, one of the most <b>perfect</b> Halloween listening albums ever released ... even if it isn't <i>really</i> a Halloween album.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It has been a full month (wee bit over actually) of thrifting & estate sales & rummage sales for me. Life just keeps on rolling & I'm learning to better cope with the things that kept me from fully enjoying it. It is wonderful to talk to friends & have them sigh with relief when they notice that I am my old self again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
How refreshing to be silly without worry, flighty & strange but not nearly as anxious or awkward, especially in crowds or around strangers. The Jewish Grammaw in me doesn't like to talk about it much for fear the panic attacks will return, but even my therapist is like, "Who ARE you!?" She had never met me before the anxiety returned, & had nothing to compare my personality to. She hadn't realized how completely terrorized I had become.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
One thing that I love is that I can go places by myself again. I can drive up the canyon, & go grocery shopping, & I've taken up my every-other-day thrift route again. I particularly missed estate sales, which I like to dilly-dally at. So I have been. I have been hitting them hard (like my ex co-worker Terrie who would give up chocolate every year for
Lent, only to make herself completely sick with M&Ms 41 days later) because I can now take my time & dig through boxes & bins & cupboards without hurrying through before the fear struck.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Below are some of my favorite finds over the past month, most of these are in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlissandVinegar" target="_blank">the shop</a> (unless they have sold already) but I am sharing one of my favorite things ever found at the end of this post & that is staying with me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Smalls! Lots & lots of smalls! Some folks don't like to fuss with them, but I can't resist their sweet kitschy charm & I have tons of customers who appreciate the time I take in selling <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108426647/miniature-fiddler-gnome-vintage-1950s" target="_blank">the</a> <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108420259/fred-kaye-chipmunk-vintage-1940s" target="_blank">little</a> <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108418459/tiny-porcelain-elephant-vintage-1950s" target="_blank">dears</a>. They are just perfect in every way! Everything above (aside from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108428987/blue-lucite-dachshund-vintage-1950s" target="_blank">the Lucite dachshund</a>) sits easily atop a quarter.</div>

A fancy & very feminine <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108416091/three-little-birds-vintage-1960s-fancy" target="_blank">set of mugs</a> with colorful birds & foliage on them. They are the loveliest creamy color & are kind of scalloped all the way around with ornate little handles, such a pretty vintage set!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
My first Cathrineholm pieces, a pair of <a href="http://www.etsy.com/transaction/93577156" target="_blank">Lotus bowls</a> that I picked up for $10 at a local thrift & sold, within two days of posting them, to a gal in Norway who paid me well for them & also didn't mind the hefty shipping fee (these bowls are not light). I entertained the thought of keeping them, but it would be too easy to start up yet another collection. I'm trying not to do that, tempting though ... very tempting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Two gorgeously colored floral Noritake Craftone Blue Sky <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108432467/teal-floral-plates-vintage-1960s" target="_blank">dessert plates</a>. Perfect colors, perfectly floral. I would love to own an entire set of this dinnerware, but it seems pretty elusive.</div>

The best little kiss <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108435897/satin-rose-clutch-vintage-1950s-double" target="_blank">clutch</a> ever. From the 1950s with the clasp at the top & a zipper across the bottom. Just the right size & in amazing condition given its age.</div>

A set of super cool Hazel Atlas <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108465399/pheasant-drinking-glasses-vintage-1950s" target="_blank">pheasant hunting glasses</a>. Found these for a song at a local thrift, just in time for autumn & fowl season. I'm not much of a hunter, but there's something so retro fabulous & masculine about them. I know they'll find a great home & be very loved.</div>

The sweetest little panda bear <a href="http://www.etsy.com/transaction/94535355" target="_blank">mug</a> you've ever seen! It's already gone, to a darlin' named Amanda. She was so excited about this mug, I almost felt bad selling it to her as if it should have been gifted.</div>

The coolest calendar I have found. It is from 1964 & stands up
& folds like a little Asian room divider. It is covered in
beautiful graphics made up of shiny foiled paint or paper & there
are little pumpkins on the extra spots in October, turkeys on the extra
spots in November, etc. Kitschy & cute. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I found this fabulous <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/108436982/ceramic-owl-box-vintage-1970s-decorative" target="_blank">unique owl jar</a> at a local thrift. It has wonderful little details, like the rain drop shaped feathers down the front & the its head comes off & will sit on its own too. I have many owl loving customers & I'm sure he won't stick around long, especially with fall almost here. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXcvlwqCozEJe3BdVVIVbOM-tizDZHDUiEs_YawL0Lz8I_AhA0EI52HlN48RGlZ3Di26UqyZFZhLr0QDDaZhlg1bQpP7mlECbhHjbF5qYh8w0ODzGvpZkCmpVifnoKi_flipq9IPdhHdW7/s1600/DSCN2639.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXcvlwqCozEJe3BdVVIVbOM-tizDZHDUiEs_YawL0Lz8I_AhA0EI52HlN48RGlZ3Di26UqyZFZhLr0QDDaZhlg1bQpP7mlECbhHjbF5qYh8w0ODzGvpZkCmpVifnoKi_flipq9IPdhHdW7/s320/DSCN2639.JPG" width="318" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have a very large colletion of vintage buttons. About seven years ago I decided that if every cardigan I bought was going to lose its buttons so quickly then I was going to replace the buttons (with vintage buttons I loved) as soon as I bought them to save the future frustration. Thus I started buying jars of buttons every chance I got & then squirreling away my favorites.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Well, you can imagine I ended up with way too many buttons. I mean, I have a lot of cardigans, but the button stash was taking over my Etsy room. I took a week & rifled through them all, tucking away my very favorites & then I carded up a bunch of them onto these vintage animal SNAP playing cards. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Here it is, one (actually two) of my favorite finds of all time. It is a Mid Century melamine storage chest. The perfect dreamy turquoise, little black feet & an awesome shape. Just right for stashing away those buttons I decided to keep! It was extremely dirty when I found it, but I took a chance & it scrubbed up nicely.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Sitting on top is a little wooden finger push puppet. I collect them. They don't have to be vintage, but I have to like them a lot in order to buy them (that keeps the clutter at bay ... HA!). As kids our mom would get these for us on Easter in our baskets & at Christmas in our stockings. Finding vintage ones makes my day. This little black cat is so sweet & goofy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have so much more to share, but I've been putting off a post for too long now. I got super behind on everything in life & now that things are slowly becoming "normal" I am noticing how many things I avoided over the past year ... like cleaning off the top of my refrigerator! Egads, that was a task not for the faint of heart!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I always find time for Instagram though & I think that may be why my blog has been so sorely neglected. I will try harder not to substitute proper blog posts with ten Instagram posts per day.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFJ6k_nHKoZ9ZXXYXpnI6qMYPKzQ4Z2-6AdFuogZ9ERFMtMSgb0-dd-9DI8U64A1Pm0HiP-NlfnbQ9c8HyNArODtGTNqInszYW6FsJ35qg3IF7DowTwi8wpIbURb39SzRfIUY3u81jbmE0/s1600/b10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Therapy has been mixing things up in my brain lately,
leaving me feeling rather raw & overexposed, but after a brief stint as a
loveable yet surly & overemotional hermit I have returned … in time to
share some lovely bits with everyone.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
My
anxiety levels have dropped off enough that I am comfortable going off places
alone lately which has been quite a nice change of pace. I have missed my freedom immensely & hope
things keep going this way. It is
difficult to be a very spontaneous & adventurous person & then wake up
one morning feeling as if you need a baby sitter to run to the market for
groceries. Irrational fears be damned,
life is slowly starting to resemble something to be enjoyed once again.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
It’s been another fun filled couple of weeks thrifting &
attending estate sales, we even hit a few yard sales just to mix things up
& had a semi productive trip to the local “Flea”. I went to a crazy barn sale (all by myself!) where
I saw this awesome <a href="http://instagram.com/p/NMEZiMMKID/" target="_blank">Poonicorn</a> sculpture (which did not come home with me, but I was more than a little tempted).</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
I finally took some pictures for <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">Etsy</a> yesterday (I had to replace the tissue in my homemade light tent as Weasley shredded the old tissue to bits earlier this month) of new & old finds alike.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFJ6k_nHKoZ9ZXXYXpnI6qMYPKzQ4Z2-6AdFuogZ9ERFMtMSgb0-dd-9DI8U64A1Pm0HiP-NlfnbQ9c8HyNArODtGTNqInszYW6FsJ35qg3IF7DowTwi8wpIbURb39SzRfIUY3u81jbmE0/s1600/b10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFJ6k_nHKoZ9ZXXYXpnI6qMYPKzQ4Z2-6AdFuogZ9ERFMtMSgb0-dd-9DI8U64A1Pm0HiP-NlfnbQ9c8HyNArODtGTNqInszYW6FsJ35qg3IF7DowTwi8wpIbURb39SzRfIUY3u81jbmE0/s400/b10.jpg" width="398" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The cast iron trivets were too corny & kitschy to pass up (at just a dime apiece) & I am especially fond of that vintage fat acceptance one. Plump wives of the world unite!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVFumnDZ6H2x7uXcUK_60RNrBGDd8PS2qg8on8iGmgHLYeIIY6GJGid4shKRsZaJDX9d9W46vQKMpEEm3EqqprIPl7WRBIPgQG895Dbu4KyP95-WET5ALI3_gk_g4NYq-L2c1pdOex3YlD/s1600/b7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVFumnDZ6H2x7uXcUK_60RNrBGDd8PS2qg8on8iGmgHLYeIIY6GJGid4shKRsZaJDX9d9W46vQKMpEEm3EqqprIPl7WRBIPgQG895Dbu4KyP95-WET5ALI3_gk_g4NYq-L2c1pdOex3YlD/s400/b7.jpg" width="398" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I got this little gem at the barn sale. It wasn't turquoise when I bought it, but I changed that quick enough & it had a little chipped up glass ashtray which I replaced with this amazing little Nasco pot that's engraved with little chevrons all the way around. A perfect fit! It is destined for the antique booth (more on that later) I think.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv0H4cf7hfgWQXx65MuIb1qQCidy-Y6w9quE5Tkz4Gc406af20T3fwHx5zyTnqW4S6uABAYJnkEczzFhr_-yOM_msdIGp2vYL5YdN-lsPnYcuWqQilJjHxdTq4xmXGron7qCdt4SsRCpX8/s1600/b8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv0H4cf7hfgWQXx65MuIb1qQCidy-Y6w9quE5Tkz4Gc406af20T3fwHx5zyTnqW4S6uABAYJnkEczzFhr_-yOM_msdIGp2vYL5YdN-lsPnYcuWqQilJjHxdTq4xmXGron7qCdt4SsRCpX8/s400/b8.jpg" width="397" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Found more vintage cake decorations ... loads of 'em. These ones aren't picks though, just little bird candle holders with tiny toes to tuck into the frosting, but just as cute! I had fun taking pictures of them with some of my old birthday candle collection (odd yes, but the boxes are so sweet I can't say no to them).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These little birds are pretty popular in the Etsy shop, the last batch sold within 2 hours of posting them. I added a few to my collection & am selling the rest, gotta share the love, vintage cake decorations are just too damn cute to hoard for myself.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I picked up these little Soovia Janis watercolor paintings for a song at our local thrift-that-thinks-it's-an-antique-shop shop. Unlike the others I've found, these are small, & have boozy subject matter to boot (I am a Bloody Mary girl ... Grey Goose if you please & heavy on the bloody beans). I think I'll sell them as a set, they were both done by Pati in 1968 & I think they should continue on together.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyAZkW3WfFLGIeuYiIZyu4V5SGYIc0C5HiuTi84XkRrMqheW97fogTw2pamaYgIgUBy1ERyalWh5ZsarJI9wOWINWdpS7_8ZJas8ot6Av5MkXmM_uOoOa60kCq2xOLunLBOPAHgHPCjPtY/s1600/b1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyAZkW3WfFLGIeuYiIZyu4V5SGYIc0C5HiuTi84XkRrMqheW97fogTw2pamaYgIgUBy1ERyalWh5ZsarJI9wOWINWdpS7_8ZJas8ot6Av5MkXmM_uOoOa60kCq2xOLunLBOPAHgHPCjPtY/s400/b1.jpg" width="397" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Just look at those, the tiniest rubber circus animals in the best & brightest bubblegum colors imaginable! I gasped. I swooned. I put them in my basket & thanked the estate sale gods for putting them in my path. They are in immaculate condition & were still tucked inside their (intolerably dusty) original plastic bag when I found them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was minding my own business, having a good time taking pictures of them when all of a sudden there was something lurking in the photo tent that wasn't supposed to be there. Apparently I am not the only member of our household who is attracted to cute little squeaky toys.</div>

So now I can feel accomplished about updating this portion of my neglected life & I'm off to update my sadly neglected <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>. Still trying to get our booth all finished up, but their hours just happen to coincide with Chucky's work hours, so all of the things he's supposed to have done late last month are still not done & I've got nowhere to put my loot! Ah well, eventually, I'll post some progress pics this weekend.</div>

We headed up the mountain early Friday morning for an estate sale that sounded promising. While we were paying for our goodies the gal running the sale gave us a flyer for another one on our way home & while en route to that one we stumbled over another just two blocks away.</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifkeUrQvGQts6VvUUGwRLMT5Em94ev_J1uKT368nBZDR83hLhQWN_IB9h8EFwP955FPvWj7c152pRr081eUywaFoahX7fh_ONH4Q6hN9uILYAAN4ITCtI9cF98QIkuUzHkqoi5GhWfJUCf/s1600/DSCN1641.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifkeUrQvGQts6VvUUGwRLMT5Em94ev_J1uKT368nBZDR83hLhQWN_IB9h8EFwP955FPvWj7c152pRr081eUywaFoahX7fh_ONH4Q6hN9uILYAAN4ITCtI9cF98QIkuUzHkqoi5GhWfJUCf/s400/DSCN1641.JPG" width="275" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">such a dirty little gnome</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They each had something of interest for the fella & for me. The
first one had all of these yard ornaments that didn't look like they
were part of the sale, but I had to ask. When she said yes I asked how
much (expecting some exorbitant figure) & she told me the gnomes
were $3 (for all 4!) & the heavy concrete doe I had my eye on was $2
(oh, gasp & swoon ... who's my favorite lady EVER)!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They were filthy & filled with black widows (seriously, I squashed three on the way to Yoko, <i><b>blargh!</b></i>) but I got them home & gave them a thorough spritz & scrub & look how nicely they turned out.
They have tons of crazing & a bit of mossy growth, but I'll leave that. I've
wanted a set of vintage gnomes for a coon's age & now I have to find
the perfect spot on our property to put them.</div>

I found so much more good stuff at all three sales, but I'll leave it with this for now. We're having a bunch of work done on the house & everything is out of place which is driving me crazy. I'm going to put my laundry room back together & then get ready to go meet up with Chucky for car club tonight at In-n-Out.<br />

The dogs absolutely adore Weasley (who is getting <b>so</b> big already) to varying degrees.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oonah-belle will play with him whenever & wherever. When she was a wee pup my MuShu was a wee kitten & they grew up playing together while I was working two jobs ... she misses him as much as I do & is just loving having a kitty around again.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Elvis will play with him when the girls aren't up for playing & is getting less jealous about a baby-baby being in the house (Elvis is quite spoiled).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Bella will pay attention to Weasley by snapping at him when he attacks her tail & grumbling at him when he tries to snuggle up to her belly on the couch. She was very badly abused before Chucky got her as a pup & is much more serious than our other dogs, she doesn't like sudden movements & the kitty makes plenty of those. We think we may have caught her accidentally getting playful once or twice, but never if we are watching.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's hard to get pictures of them together where Weasley isn't hanging from Elvis's ears or gnawing on his feet. I had to set my camera to continuous sport & hope something came out. They'll play for hours & when Elvis tires of the razor-sharp kitty teeth, Oonah will take over. My favorite part is that Weasley purrs loudly the entire time they're playing, it's just the cutest!</div>Poppyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00287900512371464702noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389397200851419555.post-65619793248568152992012-05-26T21:33:00.000-07:002012-05-28T15:02:57.409-07:00Thrifted Finds # 14 :: Penn Dutch Goodness<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A few of my favorite finds from the past week. A little bamboo cup, a Penn Dutch candelabra, a sweet little ceramic egg cup, a promotional Blue Lace Medallion Pyrex covered casserole dish & a piece of pottery from 1975, the second I've found from the Fred Roberts Lancaster County collection. I absolutely love this pattern, though it's very rare to come across pieces. I had a dinner plate last year & it sold rather quickly in <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">the shop</a> & I had quite a struggle with myself to let go of it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This piece is a large canister, it originally had a lid, but I was happy just finding the base. It would make a lovely planter or utensil holder in the kitchen. Everything about this pattern is perfect! I'm sure it will make some collector very happy once it's listed for sale. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxFVGucmuZh5X7gMvntVzJzbt7kjK2SXSJca9DBNwbNOaDcyM0t1Cz3EHd9_x9m6UNiReJQs9uu4_OwqhhuHXNnEDZEfflHUtHZJjEjnmKoP1AmT6g0rZtRN632jD0PKRYEtjxYVEUfgLd/s1600/1526.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxFVGucmuZh5X7gMvntVzJzbt7kjK2SXSJca9DBNwbNOaDcyM0t1Cz3EHd9_x9m6UNiReJQs9uu4_OwqhhuHXNnEDZEfflHUtHZJjEjnmKoP1AmT6g0rZtRN632jD0PKRYEtjxYVEUfgLd/s320/1526.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I thrifted this a little while ago, but always seem to forget to take pictures of the things that I hang on the walls for safekeeping. The look on the little girl's face really creeps Chucky out, but I bought it anyway because of her brilliant eyelashes & that cute little kitten. It is a very large paint by number piece that I bought to resell but never got around to doing so because I just don't know how to ship something this size.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll get around to it sooner or later, but for now I'll continue moving it from room to room when Chucky's at work & then pretending I have no idea what he's talking about when he discovers it hanging above the toilet or in the back of the closet behind his hoodies.</div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A little thrifted vignette of my favorite owl bookends (a thrifty gift from my Megs), a stack of thrifted antique books & my red Woodstock mini accordion.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is a rather large piece (18"x24") as well & I love the detail. I found it at a rummage sale at our local Moose Lodge, those lodges always have the best stuff for sale! It reminds me of my Grammaw's herb garden which was mostly medicinal with a culinary section. I adore the crewel work in the center, it's been cut off so that it's fuzzy & looks like shrubbery. So sweet.</div>

Lisa! Congrats m'dear! I will send you a Facebook message & you can shoot me an address to ship the owls out to. Serenity thought it was pretty cool that I let her draw the winning name, I promised that next time she'll get to do the same.<br />
<br />
We're gearing up for summer vacation at the end of this week. As of now I have Madison after school every day except for every other Friday, Sequoya every Monday, & Serenity every Friday except for the first one of each month. Summer vacation means I will have them a bit more often & since I love being an aunt SO much, I am looking forward to it.<br />
<br />
I've been saving up crafty projects & recipes on Pinterest for them to try out & making a list of movies to watch with each of them. Stuart Little with Sequoya, The Borrowers with Serenity, Summer School with Madison. Now that the pool is all clean & ready to go we'll be swimming a lot I'm sure. <br />
<br />
I'm hoping the extra activity will help with my anxiety disorder, trying to get back to where I can work at least part-time outside of the home & supplement my Etsy income so that the fella & I can move down to Chico before the students return for fall semester & take up all of the affordable housing options.<br />
<br />
Thanks so much to all of you who participated & followed & tweeted & liked & commented!<br />

... & in kitten news, he has settled right on in. The dogs are enamored of
him (ferocious pitt-bulls indeed) & they each take time out to
nibble at him & nuzzle him & Elvis loves to get rowdy & toss
him around a bit while the kitten hangs from his ears & bites his lips.<br />
<br />
We decided on a name & I keep forgetting to
comment on it. He is called Weasley after one of my favorite ginger
haired fictional families (of Harry Potter fame, just in case you've
been living under some very large rocks for the past 15 years). He is very mischievous
& a bit clumsy. The name suits him well.<br />
<br />
Here he is
sleeping on the couch with Chucky after a long day of chasing crickets
(Weasley, not the fella) while Chucky moved into his new room at Victory
Tattoo.<br />
<br />
Now I've got to get my caboose in gear & take some Thrift Haul photos for the last week. Too many great finds not to share!Poppyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00287900512371464702noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389397200851419555.post-64555289403284876652012-05-14T11:25:00.000-07:002012-05-14T18:53:26.635-07:00Thrifted Finds # 13 :: Spring Cleaning Pickins<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
First off, I'm having a giveaway & if anyone would like to participate you can find the info <a href="http://bliss-n-vinegar.blogspot.com/2012/05/50-followers-owl-coaster-giveaway.html" target="_blank"><b>H E R E</b></a> ... c'mon, free vintage stuff! Who wouldn't want to win?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thrifting lately has been pretty fruitful. Lots of sweet & silly kitsch, tons of Mid Century housewares & SO many children's books to make me smile. I attribute this good luck to the weather; lots of folks spring cleaning equals tons of donations for our local non-profits.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
5 of the 7 thrift shops in my little town are non-profits & thankfully we have a charity minded population. The only one I won't shop at or donate to is the Salvation Army, I don't agree with their politics or how they choose to exclude some members of the population based on their sexual orientation.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyhow ... here are a few of my favorites from the past week, some will stay with me, some will make their way into <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">the shop</a>.</div>

In other news, my husband started work at a new tattoo shop on Friday & it's the best tattoo shop in our area for sure, <a href="http://www.victorytattoo.com/" target="_blank">Victory Tattoo</a>. Yes, very exciting news that we held on to for a couple of weeks until he had the chance to break it to the owner of the shop he was working at. He has wanted to work at Victory ever since he moved here & last weekend he went in to drop off a custom tattoo machine for the owner & was offered a position. He's positively giddy & I am so proud of / happy for him.<br />
<br />
He's down at the shop getting his room set up today, I am home watching Fresh Beat Band with Sequoya Rose & after we pick up Maddy from school this afternoon we are going to go swimming. I've got to get myself down to try on new swim suits now that the pool is ready for the season.<br />

Oh my goodness, how surprised was I this morning to see that I had reached 50 followers! I have had something special set aside for a giveaway post & I do believe that this is the perfect time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First off, thank you all so very much for coming around to see all of the stuff I haul home on my thrifting & estate sale adventures. What a treat to know that someone is paying attention to my rambling & appreciating these things I find that I do so adore. I don't have any friends IRL who dig on vintage as much as I do & to tell you the truth I think most of 'em secretly believe I'm nuts for making a living this way. I could bet, however, that I am enjoying myself LOADS more than I would be if I were still a Fat-Girl-Panty-Pimper (my former occupation), even though I really did enjoy that too ... well, some of it!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Anyway, there are two adorable little owl trivets which have been lovingly refurbished by myself into bright, fun coasters. One is teal & the other is Hubba Bubba (psst, your age is showing, Poppy Lynn) pink. I use mine (& I do have many) to set plants on when I bring them indoors, to hold my cups-a Joe & spots o' tea while I'm reading & they look just darling hanging on the wall in pretty much any room.</div>

I don't know what it is about vintage children's science books, but I find them everywhere & <i>have</i> to buy them. There is no way I can actually keep every children's book I buy, so I read them to my 5 year old niece, Sequoya, & then they end up in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlissandVinegar?section_id=10656631" target="_blank">the shop</a> as soon as she's moved on (usually after about two weeks of reading the same book again & again & again...). They sell well, so I guess it isn't only myself who digs 'em. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I found 11 of these <i>Let's-Read-And-Find-Out Science Book</i> books at a local thrift recently, all in a neat little stack on the floor next to a run down 1970s Barbie Townhouse that some child had liberally "painted" with multicolored crayon scribbles. I actually looked around, thinking that someone had set them there for a moment while checking out something else, but there was no one to be seen & so I put the <i>5 second rule</i> (usually reserved for dropped M&Ms or Wasabi Peas, but useful in Thrifting adventures as well) into effect & snatched them up quick as I could.</div>

The books are dated from 1960 all the way up to 1976. All in such pristine condition aside from the name of a teacher, Mrs. Nabors (that has been craftily transformed into the name Mrs. Wabonson) scrawled on the title page of a few of them & there are three with the title pages ripped all the way out, but that doesn't bother me. I'll keep them around a bit until Sequoya is all learned up on senses, bats, starfish, & salt ... then I'll post what I don't want on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlissandVinegar" target="_blank">Etsy</a>. Win-win.<br />

I found so much good stuff this week, our local Elks Lodge had their annual fund raising rummage sale & I was a good girl & got there first thing on the first day. Sadly most of their items were outside & it went from a light sprinkle to a downpour after only 10 minutes. I rushed through, grabbing my very favorite items before everything was covered with tarps & went back the next day to look again. There was some great stuff, including a pair of Street King Official Roller Derby skates from the 1960s in their original box (which I failed to photograph somehow). <br />

Now these are something new in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlissandVinegar" target="_blank">the shop</a> this week. My husband has a thing for ornate vintage frames, especially small ones. He traces an outline of their glass onto his watercolor pad & takes it to the tattoo shop with him. In between tattoos, if he has some down-time, he draws up small pieces of flash to go in them. He's been giving them to family & friends for years; I love it when he comes home with new pieces for me!<br />
<br />
He did some up for <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/99187105/mom-tattoo-flash-vintage-frame-with-ooak" target="_blank">Mother's Day</a> & I am sticking <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlissandVinegar?section_id=10968276" target="_blank">a few of them</a> on Etsy. I think they're a swell little gift to give & who doesn't like traditional style tattoo flash?! Plus a sweet little one of a kind piece of artwork in a wee vintage frame is just wonderful to give or get! He does them for weddings & baby showers & other occasions as well so we may put some customizable options up in the future also.<br />

We have been having exceptionally beautiful early spring weather. There are yard sales & estate sales galore, but unfortunately we've been busy, busy, busy & haven't had time for many of them. I've still managed to come away from my favorite little dingy thrift shop with some great goodies.</div>

Like this gorgeous Lefton Mother <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/98601224/fancy-mom-mug-vintage-1950s-kitsch" target="_blank">coffee mug</a>. It is a coffee cup (the other side says coffee in gold script) that looks like a giant dainty tea cup. I am in luuurve with the pink scalloped glaze on the interior rim. So feminine & flowery. </div>

A super glittery retro owl <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/98530003/lucite-owl-lamp-vintage-1950s-mid" target="_blank">Lucite night light</a>. His tummy glows when you plug him in, I remember these in my Grandma Edna's house when I was a kid. She had one in the bathroom & one in the sun room where we slept when we visited.</div>

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/98523866/kitschy-wall-hooks-vintage-1940s-plaster" target="_blank">These</a> plaster 1940s his & hers wall hooks are just brilliant. I love, love, love them! They are extremely shabby with super chippy paint, but I couldn't bring myself to repaint them. I almost sprayed a clear coat on them to make sure no more of their original paint chips off, but decided to offer them up in the shop as-is ... just in case any of my customers loves them in their found state as much as I do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If they don't sell after a month I will go ahead & let Chucky redo their paint before reposting them. I hope they sell first. We live in a cinder block house & these would stay with me if it were possible to hang them on our walls, but the masonry hooks I have to use wouldn't let them lay flush against the wall & it would do nothing but frustrate me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img3.etsystatic.com/il_fullxfull.331510895.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img3.etsystatic.com/il_fullxfull.331510895.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div>

A retro Disneyland <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/98335710/hand-cut-silhouette-vintage-1960s" target="_blank">hand-cut silhouette</a> ... the quintessential souvenir. I can't pass these up. I love the little flourishes around the perimeter. They always sell well. </div>

This amazing 1950s <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/98483080/color-picture-dictionary-vintage-1950s" target="_blank">Color Picture Dictionary</a> has the best retro illustrations inside. Tons & tons of them. A dream for anyone who's as into that sort of thing, if you could see fit to dismantle & use it for journaling or scrap-booking or jewelry ... I can't do those things, not to an awesome vintage children's book. I'll leave it to someone else.<br />
<br />
This week everything posted is already up for sale in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlissandVinegar" target="_blank">Bliss&Vinegar Vintage</a>. I've been a busy girl, posting away ... trying to get a hold on all of this inventory. We're preparing for a large yard sale to whittle down some of the things I bought that I don't feel fit in with my Etsy shop, the locals will be pleased.<br />

Early last year my cat Mushu walked through some pesticides in a neighbor's yard & got very sick. It took him close to a month to get better & a week later our pesky neighbor was out with the sprayer again (trying to wrestle a meadow full of star thistles into oblivion with pesticides while growing a huge organic garden ... makes no sense to me) & this time my Mush wasn't so lucky.<br />
<br />
The time since has been the only time in my adult life that I haven't owned a cat. More specifically an orange, male cat. I've had Marmalade, Schmert (full name Schmerticus Von Mordecai Bom-Bom Bickie Boo-Woo), Chino, Puck, & lastly Mushu. We also had Kung POW! but she was a black female cat.<br />
<br />
When Chucky started working at a new tattoo shop late last year there just happened to be a pet store next door. I told him that yes we could get a new cat (as if I don't have my hands full enough with our two Pitt Bulls & Plott Hound) if he could find a short-haired orange male kitten.<br />
<br />
It took eight months & we haven't yet named him so he can't be properly introduced, but ... look what Chucky brought home from work on Saturday.<br />

We're kind of in love.<br />
<br />
I forgot how full of energy they are, I made him some special little sugar skull toys filled with crinkly plastic (from the plastic seals that come on top of our gelato) & catnip. Elvis is a little jealous, he's been the baby of the house for three years ... he keeps stealing Kitty's toys & hoarding them on his corner of the bed with his favorite frisbee.<br />
<br />
Sorta cute. I think Gingersnap is a cute name, Chucky likes Wonton ... my five year old niece, Sequoya, thinks his name should be Orange Cat. I'm sure we'll settle on something soon.Poppyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00287900512371464702noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389397200851419555.post-38718862467429481442012-04-20T02:25:00.002-07:002012-04-25T18:53:47.440-07:00Etsy Spot Guest Curator<div style="text-align: justify;">

How excited was I to get a message from Nina over at <a href="http://www.etsyspot.com/" target="_blank">Etsy Spot</a> asking me to be the guest curator for the upcoming weekend!? After the initial "aw shucks" moment of blushing & embarassment (because I'm a super cheese) I was just thrilled. She asked me to write a paragraph about myself & my Etsy shop, Bliss&Vinegar, & to come up with a vintage themed treasury. Easy-peasy, right? Well, I'm a bit awkward (the WORST resume writer ever) when it comes to writing about myself, but I think I did alright.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can find the post <a href="http://www-etsyspot.tumblr.com/post/21429043369/friday-treasury-with-guest-curator-poppy-from" target="_blank">HERE</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you can see I used Pee Wee's Big Adventure as my theme, you can see it in action over on the Etsy Spot Blog. If you're so inclined to visit my treasury, click around a bit & maybe comment ... that would be appreciated too.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
After just under a year on the Paleo plan, my doctor told me that she believes I have heavy metal poisoning caused by my pescetarian Paleo eating habits. She has instructed me to add whole grains, beans & legumes back into my diet as protein sources ... basically back to following a mainly vegetarian diet with occasional fish. For now I'm avoiding fish altogether, until my body gets back to normal. We had to go shopping as our diet since last may consisted of NO grains, NO sugar, NO processed food. I had to pick up the basics like brown rice & sprouted breads, black beans, etc.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, what is one of the first things I did? I bought some organic whole wheat pastry flour! I had to bake <i>something</i>, & off to my <a href="http://pinterest.com/BlissAndVinegar/sweet-cuppin-cakes/" target="_blank">Sweet Cuppin Cakes</a> Pinterest board I went! <a href="http://www.ldsliving.com/story/64185-food-dish-cookie-recipe-contest-winner-recipe" target="_blank">This</a> recipe came across my <a href="http://pinterest.com/BlissAndVinegar/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> dash last month & it looked right up my alley. I was correct & they are the perfect cookie for me. Light, slightly crisp shell, moist & chewy inside ... LEMONY. Next time I think I'll make an equally lemony filling & sandwich them together & roll the edges in coarse sugar for a super treat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had forgotten what an outlet for relaxation & creativity my baking had been for so many years. If I was stressed or having trouble making a decision or sad or restless or whatever, I would bake. I could lose myself in a batter or a dough, I wouldn't think about anything but the ingredients & the process.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last night I lost an hour & a half to baking these & listening to my favorite <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJfMYYhEs4k" target="_blank">Camera Obscura</a> album & that's okay with me. My mind was quiet, I wasn't panicky or waiting for the sky to fall.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was lovely & when I was finished I got to eat an effing cookie (so, yeah ... I had three)!</div>

Happy Easter to everyone!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is the basket that was waiting out in our front yard for me today. Elvis saw it first & it startled him so much that he flipped out & started barking (while running in the opposite direction) which alerted me to its presence. I hope the Easter Flamingo left you all of your favorites this year as she did for me. PBR tall-boys & all things filled with marshmallow & mint.</div>

I went to brunch with my Mom & sister while our husbands golfed. All of my nieces are out of town, as is my little brother so it was a very mellow day. I baked a Pig Pickin' bundt cake (everybody's favorite) & am preparing to enjoy dinner & conversation with my family.</div>Poppyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00287900512371464702noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389397200851419555.post-15463082449870559292012-03-30T10:14:00.000-07:002012-04-25T18:55:26.092-07:00Seed Catalogs & Sunday Tea : Treasury<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
My weekend of scavenging can only be described as Teh Awesome. So many things I love crammed into such a short period of time, totally makes up for getting up at 5 am in the super freeze-cold to go to an "Estate Sale" that turned out to be anything but. Two tables in a tiny garage split between four different sellers does not an estate sale make.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There were better rummage sales & yard sales & our weekly flea to enjoy & you can bet I made the most of those.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4jKQ1Xnlh98AW0wsMcSgtT-gyRydbr75oKExKI6KVJK6TIde9J9oFDr_TTPhbN5bxXsbNdJtB8O4t4ub71ISvQXm8fD9ssBF06XutQuOA-1bkVDKMtl18BR1kFdYSEjPzIbTpmHdLdRJh/s400/DSCN9649.JPG" width="398" /></div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Three darling Holly Hobbie glasses from 1972. I love that each one is a different color.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Two little chipmunk figurines with super sass, their expressions make me smile.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">A little bronzed deer California souvenir.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">An amazing gray ceramic owl.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Antique kitten cross stitch ... the fabric is yellowed with age, I love that it is all done in black thread. I've been bringing home tons of kitten stuff lately.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Two little ceramic squirrel figurines. Not a set, but both very sweet.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">An entire set of Child-Craft books from the 1950s. I love these books, I have a few singles, but this was an entire set in near mint condition & got them for .25 apiece. There are 15 of them in the set.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb5-FUJaeGMeJQF4gpty-xZxerJzmtcz-TBR9UvU4vkHc60xQDMEHUbedC2oWaY-_73fePmQjwuFXX4GMeBVBd4IzjpcOAm-V3JLRz893MXwlO1-RMUBNi-auT67TdQC5NQmCaGUnyN5Mf/s400/DSCN9647.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The cover art is one of my favorite things about them, each one is different. If I could convince myself to cut them up, the covers would look amazing framed & hung in my sewing room, but I don't think that will happen even if they were only a quarter. Destroying books that are still perfectly good for reading makes me cringe a little.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Two Joan Walsh Anglund twin sheet sets, made by Utica in 1973 & in brand new condition. I have quite a few of her darling children's books in my collection & love flipping through the illustrations. It would not be surprising if I eventually end up with a tattoo (or two or three) inspired by them. The combination of olive green & goldenrod is so reminiscent of my childhood. These sheets are bound for my <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>, though if I had a guest room with two twin beds they'd be staying put.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was certainly my week for linens. This Smokey the Bear flat sheet from the 1970s is my favorite of the sheets I found. It is all done in dreamy colors with every forest friend imaginable, plus mushrooms & trees & bushes & some of the little animals are holding up forest fire awareness safety tips on signs that say, "Be careful with every fire" & "Break all your matches" & "Drown every campfire".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I found Transformers, Rainbow Brite & Charlie Brown sheets from the 1980s & 1970s also. They'll end up in <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">the shop</a> later this week.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then there's this AMAZING Empire Strikes Back bedspread. Possibly the best picnic blanket I've ever seen. It's worn & you can tell it was very well loved. I got it from the yard sale of this lovely lady who had lost her son last year. It was his when he was a boy. His name, Matthew, is stenciled on the front.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are a few other great things I found that I will post about later on in the week. A 1940s baby quilt with embroidered cats all over it that makes me swoon. I've got to figure out a way to photograph the whole thing, it's just so very sweet. There's also a large paint by number of a girl & her kitten. It's all about cats right now, we're on the list at our local humane society & at the pet shop next to my husband's tattoo shop for an orange male kitten (need a kitten to grow up with our three LARGE dogs). It's been almost a year since my MuShu died & I miss having a lazy bones lap cat.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Too, too much inventory & it's time to clear some out so everything in the shop is 40% off for a short time. Spring cleaning also means unearthing things you forgot you had & my goodness did I forget quite a lot! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If there's anything you've been eyeballing in the shop, now's the time to grab it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
What a lazy Sunday, listening to Cat Stevens & the Avett Brothers, cleaning like a madwoman ... staring longingly at my banjo case & wishing I was sitting in the sun practicing my rolls instead.</div>

We attended an estate sale way out in the middle of nowhere this past weekend, apparently everyone else gave up because we were the ONLY people there the entire 45 minutes we stayed. That's a first for me. It was great to be able to look around & not feel hurried or pushed as I'm a slow grazer when it comes to these things. I like to take my time & inspect each item. I picked up some lovely stuff, too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXW7tfbbV_wQd7qpTHR2NL4XsiSX6QK8mK6bVvAh_PzGqgGtxPzIngMFQZIfbwFSr_vjwMJugJ1Z8GNJyS8XI2iNnA5QtvI4mavlbxQPDdtY9oBinuruFXUFa3r0MnUOIxgm4ldkPTTbub/s400/DSCN9267.JPG" width="358" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Like this flowery toilet planter! Flowery. Toilet. Planter. As if I could leave that behind. It was covered in dusty, greasy shmutz, but I took a chance (for a dime, I'm quite the risk taker) & after a decent soak it came nice & clean. I'm guessing this little beauty will eventually be filled with geraniums & white trailer park rocks & set next to the front door.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe7HtlpMJATjEUIHvoi8ADUnYlBdgf35xutoT55cRn-x98cc8EN9q7gCzTY2a9TBlhiXiGu0omy2zE3vwPmMCXzY6vwZ525s6MUCGNZ00ZOxw-jPrJ0nxETB14jGO2O2FylS7clryoylBH/s400/DSCN9268.JPG" width="397" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some old Avon perfume bottles, my customers just LOVE these things. I only buy the ones I have sold out of or styles that seem a little awesome. I'm thinking I'll paint the unicorn's horn white & cover it with some vintage iridescent glitter & that bluebird's head needs a coat of paint as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The inside of the unicorn was covered in dried out, stuck on dots of ancient cologne. I tried baking soda & vinegar, goof off, bottle brushes ... what finally worked was boiling water & a good swirl.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That platter they are sitting on is large & lovely. It's by Paul McCobb, the Sparkler pattern for Contempri. So springy. I haven't yet decided if it's a keeper, probably not as I really don't need any more platters. Ever.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2wfhkacGDvozcloOj5pzqqtIYYPVpb0t7qF-aaLiGiovW57EItili_6iLakrbmmyBoY1S3lPVOVZNiOBfrrDu3mk0h09IywxjHAcfl50SLzbzT6hSHzwjUBL0eXH2zTn-On0l035IQsUs/s320/DSCN9269.JPG" width="319" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My very favorite find for the week is this little elf book from 1950, The Little Kittens' Nursery Rhymes. It is filled with these charming photographs of very awkward looking kittens & puppies wearing clothing & posed just so. Most reenacting the stories from the rhymes.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj48eHa1DkUVUm32hpH72KsmBIEpK7RQZlM1tuJO8XgDKyc1PFTGkxd5Fxdk7QnoLh9megT1wtznjFmuOToREacEnvWZGUKA1H4tC9uRdQMEhvlwz9004lnLbJEQ9Hi_O1oHz0EjAhu6eoV/s400/DSCN9270.JPG" width="398" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is in very poor shape & looks like the animals within tried to eat their way out, but I just love a battered children's book ... I cannot leave them behind to be tossed. The lady looked at me like I was a complete nutter & told me I could take it. I disassembled the darling thing & now I have a stack of perfectly frame-able vintage art.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="353" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIZi-bp7VLRUECN7jASk5dhGrXMOcRG-GkMWYkUnTlIuDJSfEej6f1iX_vYW4oRElgOBgFcG-r_NqJzCyieHJ98lm6f6X47CpBRws54jhAjZZhYOCus3XXF73t3rhPT3eNWeTvAI5V51Wj/s400/DSCN9271.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Their little eyes just kill me. I remember well, dressing my sister's kitten up in doll clothes & riding her around in my plastic, floral bike basket when I was a youngster. I'm sure I'll share more when I get them framed & hung. There are so many & each one is just so precious.</div>

Lately my area has been estate sale central. Sadly the company putting most of them on is very unprofessional & super unorganized which makes these crowded events pretty nerve-wracking (especially for those of us with anxiety disorders). Despite my own personal "invisible dinosaurs" creeping around lately & making my body go haywire, I've been soldiering on & making myself attend the sales. Huzzah, I've found some lovely things for <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/blissandvinegar" target="_blank">the shop</a> & for myself. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioLNziMRbCHwMVa6fy9CM8hNy7NbgvzzrrAswvPLxYCIcKjwcaHt8oRaNuq-O5uAK5CumttixBFFG98C060T0l7pLyKfZzLpdMz1jQnUayHsJ9AkaoEjbLL9Nj-zBJItTN9Qys_CkhQ-ZK/s400/DSCN8958.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
These were some of my favorite finds from the past weekend. The tschotchkes all came from the same estate sale & the 3D illustration books were found in three different thrift shops.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR2WuGKGAOebQuEFPc88LRYvMYYfYo32vvK6z0c90m3xQfZHsah2EURP5s_aUGmGKTGD7agTIIdmUyRYj9Q4s80XNRUyXxecAHAr0QJZGNLyTNmcm5hn3AWRft0LyBIyg2Gw7Boo2cuN28/s400/DSCN8959.JPG" width="398" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, how sweet is this stuffed mouse!? I fell in love the second I saw him from across the room ... just look at that little red felt hat & that faded pink bow! Sadly his tag has been cut away, but he's in excellent (if slightly shabby) condition & I couldn't love him more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I haven't decided yet whether he's staying or going, but for now we're calling him Gerald & he's keeping my matryoshka collection company.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWO1kA_XkTK-chne7kAFTi8zfkHYmDqNDqgirg2Eo60W9kzrGjigaKJbXKIqN9W8LqX0O068GF38iyEGwm2akbdaYAzLFIaSzBsyW8hu6NaS6zOGNF26FgBoRGGlszq-dS41QTEZuXgaHK/s400/DSCN8970.JPG" width="266" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
He's a pretty big vintage mouse, sitting an impressive 7" tall from his toes to the tip of his hat. I adore that crooked little tail & how he's got no arms. He's a Dream Pet, his tag has been cut off, but you can see the orange edges & the beginnings of the lettering. Figures, aren't Dream Pets just so dreamy!?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQcTXjv_kYMerpuTUWYNcvYawDPJaRqO1L6kb0ppsrzpCvMxruC5gFoqC4Kg4QHm9cXh9HU613oeNVlCwLToZFB2o3LUwp4n05kb5hXB6LFIRTFf3qsIDkJUYh9osBDjIlYXDfvQVVGOHn/s400/DSCN8961.JPG" width="398" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This wee yellow hen I found perched on a shelf in a kitchen window along with a bunch of other things I purchased that I believe people just overlooked because they hadn't been taken down & placed on the counters with everything else. It has spring loaded legs & when you push it down it lays tiny, white plastic eggs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I also found a wonderful old red & chrome Thermos & some darling turquoise measuring cups on those little window shelves. Luckily I was following my own rule of, "Look UP!" that day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz2HVd6BsZ3ng3Obl-s1fmkCXCOmUwsyHSO2d6Xf1HibU0dbpNE6m6diHop19FFAKq4I0yGWpIdLEy4wmufStPs0Fi-wFBvUhFgAORRCmYnZ-mdfXAkKSfCVYrw33SNmJLQq2NLjVYk74_/s400/DSCN8964.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A pack of Whitman miniature playing cards with cross-stitched bird & flower pot pattern. I can't decide which is sweeter, that pattern or the perfectly playful little Joker illustration. These may end up as business cards if they don't make their way to the shop. I never know what to do with vintage playing cards ... split them up for folks to use in craft projects or sell them all as a pack to a collector.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9-3VAKAgnKQo2clnmEOWWbysbhyZNznWYoTUcmfhpsKsw8eo-bDJrRAmC-BMmAxwmbzMdwhcNlJgaNT1c5rNjYsI6dzsYhl93UMK-pzHb89A5LCOyEhEa88gU4W5NMHDVM4Fp-ZMOQ0kL/s400/DSCN8968.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Possibly one of my favorite finds this year, a brilliant wooden Mid-Century cat pen. It has a removable brass refill & I'm going to take it in to an office supply & try to find a replacement. It may stay as well, but I don't know. I'm sure there would be someone out there who would love to use it every day. We shall see.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOP37sXl4UwoRfS1GoOqQnRzrukzw2g4OSZ4etfSpiGqzyDR2VOYv8TH6ihPjRsCl1yjRX-g8ALUBky03RQTGTvx4-Y-f72OrfWW5z77J4Drb6iUTRhmYiHkoYAT3C4iFwhwYeyK_YkHa0/s400/DSCN8972.JPG" width="398" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Lastly, my small collection of 3D illustration children's books. As a child you couldn't get me away from books, I started reading at 4 years old & haven't been found without reading material on hand since! These types of books were always very dear to me & I read & reread them ... hypnotized by the details in those pictures. Check out the lovely cuckoo clock & their kinda spooky green eyes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTo-h142nYzoRsM8SyyDfOYrVFyBu6jADkRFmih8ox1CWvt3cMUtofnDwItam2kpQ5tIP_X8k0n2Ix43xqPt3OD9VBuMpwREqgLaip3bZp5e1eKp0H6Jf-S8HLnFR6ICcHVAmllkNGZ-oK/s400/DSCN8973.JPG" width="266" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I remember this Peter Rabbit book by Grosset & Dunlap very well. This illustration in particular, from the part in the story where Peter comes upon the mouse who cannot help him because she's got a pea in her mouth. Peter is so sad & has these enormous tears in his eyes. It tore at my heartstrings 25 years ago & can still do so today! This is a 1985 edition of the 1968 classic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMsUowN3rtkOHU3TzAdpMAmJGE4RGOfsi0ATUaxM6xxcx_gIVgjPqDYd_fd1n2vun8tHsl-LIPG9k7gPqJZLEppqXuiePiBf-3YGCOWo8cH6jjpoVUlH690HCQZCAtoh4pzDTx75vwOlkT/s400/DSCN8974.JPG" width="398" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Lastly there's this amazing 3D Playmore Peter Pan. I can't stand how lovely the pictures are, so detailed & kitschy. Sadly the 3D plate that should be on the cover is long gone, but maybe someday I'll find one that's intact.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I was so excited to find them all in such good condition. I always keep a lookout for these type of vintage children's books; strange that I'd find three of them in three different thrifts in one day. They are welcome additions to my collection.</div>

I ran out of business cards this past week & then the shop got very busy. Without any cards to tuck into packages I looked around my studio for other options & my eyes settled on a 1967 Memory game that I picked up at a local thrift for fifty cents last week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I bought it because I was in love with the illustrations on the little 2" x 2" cardboard game cards, why not utilize their awesomeness for the shop in a way other than reselling? So here's what I did.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Vintage game pieces (playing cards would work well too), craft glue, a sheet of printed out shop info & my trusty scissors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1SklB_xjuxREHayijq5H6mVrHFG8NPc8yz-g4kL-OWvAGohmuDPQZW5xaraVHtVRDUwkphBGVCmBrHvpD4LNGeOSH8JteuAnWgVzSpnyVIJOlITyVP8_g8Wtv1FAucQ7b4UWlXgbQNGgv/s1600/DSCN8748.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1SklB_xjuxREHayijq5H6mVrHFG8NPc8yz-g4kL-OWvAGohmuDPQZW5xaraVHtVRDUwkphBGVCmBrHvpD4LNGeOSH8JteuAnWgVzSpnyVIJOlITyVP8_g8Wtv1FAucQ7b4UWlXgbQNGgv/s400/DSCN8748.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I cut the printout into long strips & then into squares. Put one card onto a cutout & used my scissors to trim around the edges.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5ojvGd2-xBcJxLd0aHue6FKbI6zKwfqCfA2iSTvHqiYAZJlmS3mvUgj5mUzs5IEAyED7sXM5-qIhB3q_fGq1nG6P26nJqGH22lZUyJ3mOghs51GnaejHiKOVJDGGjRCADGXJwbyj_D2C7/s1600/DSCN8749.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5ojvGd2-xBcJxLd0aHue6FKbI6zKwfqCfA2iSTvHqiYAZJlmS3mvUgj5mUzs5IEAyED7sXM5-qIhB3q_fGq1nG6P26nJqGH22lZUyJ3mOghs51GnaejHiKOVJDGGjRCADGXJwbyj_D2C7/s400/DSCN8749.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then I used that first cutout piece as a template for the rest of them. This part was a bit tedious, but I listened to some Old 97's & it moved me right along.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVC_meY-MawFOfyCgYBBqn0UXAwlZbU8aARqEOPipOj3oz7SMtyWcs5ln4TxmQ0K7E2cTaAH6g3FrUGtQsIuP09LiCTlr7fQgq-JpIcF9Vf3-S6PLO68qcxAdBXU0KZKmaklpwVL1C9cw_/s1600/DSCN8751.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVC_meY-MawFOfyCgYBBqn0UXAwlZbU8aARqEOPipOj3oz7SMtyWcs5ln4TxmQ0K7E2cTaAH6g3FrUGtQsIuP09LiCTlr7fQgq-JpIcF9Vf3-S6PLO68qcxAdBXU0KZKmaklpwVL1C9cw_/s400/DSCN8751.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I mixed the craft glue with water (2 parts glue, 1 part water) & brushed it on the back of the cards with a small paintbrush & applied the cutout. I put them face down on a sheet of newspaper & weighted them with books for about 15 minutes until all of them were finished.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then I set them in the windowsill behind the woodstove to dry ... it only took about twenty minutes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZvAS4E70stJ5ZqbRbmW04SE8U0RAcqUCNWVdzbtpHTr7_aSm8CW8RRTol01Kbeq6J5n2xD8KV69IGWO_pJ0CneU2mkxgroFYQkNFV2BA0AgHyyRy27jst-umWIEsSDKHAg8petOnWOQVQ/s1600/DSCN8752.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZvAS4E70stJ5ZqbRbmW04SE8U0RAcqUCNWVdzbtpHTr7_aSm8CW8RRTol01Kbeq6J5n2xD8KV69IGWO_pJ0CneU2mkxgroFYQkNFV2BA0AgHyyRy27jst-umWIEsSDKHAg8petOnWOQVQ/s400/DSCN8752.JPG" width="277" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I have a tray full of 64 super fun "cards" to tuck into my packages before mailing them. Even when my new shipment of Moo Cards arrive, I'll probably use these once in a while ... they're SO darn cute. They took about an hour to make & cost me a whopping fifty cents (plus two cents worth of card stock ... maybe ten cents in printer ink & maybe a penny's worth of glue).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCSyHbCP9Y5up63vG7FoJ_wGZCWCv1S-n4w5DAZd3uaOLkQTiBIQ3KSib6lkQGTfcVDYCEZhcvqgR5TiOaFC1HIeEBzJphLRj0XYpZtpYrACy1cVh8U-Ck0cyZZpWQx9E3TtPc_VJTj4tL/s1600/DSCN8755.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCSyHbCP9Y5up63vG7FoJ_wGZCWCv1S-n4w5DAZd3uaOLkQTiBIQ3KSib6lkQGTfcVDYCEZhcvqgR5TiOaFC1HIeEBzJphLRj0XYpZtpYrACy1cVh8U-Ck0cyZZpWQx9E3TtPc_VJTj4tL/s400/DSCN8755.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They look super cute on my packages ... the hard part is giving them up, see what I mean about those illustrations! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I decided at the end of December that I was going to set myself some goals for January. Nothing too fancy ... not resolutions, but goals geared toward my Etsy shop & ramping up my reselling efforts. I looked through my data for the 4 months I had the shop open in 2011 & figured out that my biggest waste of money was in renewing items before their 4 month expiration date was up.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Renewing can be done at any time & it is one way to get your items seen if you haven't the time to post new items. Every time you post an item on Etsy it is added to the recently added section on the front page & has a chance of catching someone's eye & leading them to your shop. So renewing items is a very quick way to get your shop seen, but also burns up your money lickety split!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If I had posted a new item for each twenty cents spent instead of just hitting the renew button, every backlogged item in my Etsy room would be listed by now. I found that I lost track of how often I was renewing & it cost me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For my January goals I decided on:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1) Post three new items for each day of the month.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2) Don't waste money renewing items!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3) Save late night listings as drafts - check for errors, etc & post in the morning.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It went okay. I posted a total of 48 new items during the month. That came out to just under 1.5 items per day, about half of what I had planned for myself ... I fell short of my expectations, I will definitely try harder this time around.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I ended up renewing only 30 times. Which pretty much poured $6 that could have been used to post new items down the drain, but I only did it at the end of the month while I was sick with the flu & had no energy for editing photos & creating new listings. Once again, I will try harder this time around.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Late night posting sort of misses out on a large chunk of my customer base. I have a whole lot of customers here in California & many in Canada. Posting at 2am doesn't work so well, not to mention I am usually pretty sleepy (even if I can't sleep) & small errors go unnoticed when editing the listings. Best to save them as drafts & post in the am after a quick run through, I did well with this goal. I believe it helped as my views went up quite a bit for each item sooner after it was posted.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So anyhow, I read on Apron Thrift Girl (what an inspiration this gal is) about a listing challenge for February & decided to take part. I am trying to be more active on my blog & in the reselling community of bloggers, so I thought a challenge would be a great place to start.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My February goals will be the same as the first two goals from January, except I would like to renew ZERO items. If you need a little motivation & inspiration take a peek at the challenge by clicking on the button in my side bar.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wish me luck!</div>Poppyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00287900512371464702noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389397200851419555.post-59769100699150206282012-02-06T10:40:00.000-08:002012-04-25T19:13:34.791-07:00Thrifted Finds # 6 : Spring Fever<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/92284879/mod-couples-mug-vintage-1960s-floral" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp_VGPmzsJWVA5D_5D6v3Jo7n3mc9LuikkrCYh4V_eKnSXOXVVH22Ps4JocrZR_tCFAjMyOt-7rrK3jsofWhaRhyphenhyphen552G0soVk3KzGFhwKWXf2dwiKM_2Q-BtLjyS84D0-FPG7NxHe_1v0f/s400/DSCN8655.JPG" width="398" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I found a little coffee mug while thrifting this weekend. By the time I found it I had given up on finding <i>anything</i> worthy of taking home & was just finishing my normal "just in case" loop through the shop. There were so many people, more than I had ever seen in this shop at one time & it was crowded & uncomfortable. The few things I had spotted that I <span style="font-size: small;"><i>kinda</i></span> liked weren't enough to warrant braving the line of impatient customers waiting for their turn at the single register.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCnh02Zeh_PMppdyVjLtGPLO5wM0Z6SSDU3Mj7Bq6gzZkyt0_eskpcLuNW_JkGlfQyCSR9iveJCvhQ-hs5p0z0xISdp_6NjqH6V8VrlR10HWEi2Q_0ZQucC6qQFP5vR6Sc4WSQIJnMbIDo/s400/DSCN8656.JPG" width="398" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then I spotted this on the mug shelf alongside all of the free prescription drug advertisement mugs that seem to plague our thrift shops here. My heart sang, maybe my trip hadn't been such a bust after all! It is the sweetest little thing, covered with four little couples, all dolled up for something special.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1WvGuYt3a2XROOb9UK7yGnkdE3Xwyj8nsrk4-a_1ERO7Mrzjn30r7SoFtSgGu5hCcf_c2HEvy_j49OqgvkjHdXCctRnjrd9d0DkIIY86Wk8EZa0cNOZurnhhXfMYNWDf2mQdvQ4WlAZAi/s400/DSCN8657.JPG" width="398" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCXQoDwit3kPALJU12oQlbDi_s-bAfZXvO9Kr3h2oQ7O_sM9sRZ1x5ctFNXXdTLL4i6n1_hHohtiUj9CGC3ObGda0_sCsu10izvlYl_6SWTsJRLJ6GMxBIHiaArWjqWYoraroJLpXExSBk/s400/DSCN8658.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In between & around them are scattered all of these sweet little doodles; squiggles & hearts & flowers & stars. All in lovely muted tones of mustard & olive & salmon & teal. The girls have fancy hair-dos & most of the boys have bow-ties. It is exactly the sort of thing I look for while thrifting ... unique & a little kitschy with a definite retro vibe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi50aboBB781bdM4K2rXt7xQjqGznbKYUL-_rHbwoGzo6ttEMDwWBjrocPTO06aB2tH0dKs8zfzKUWmoU_7blKCIZjmVZcqw3QVZM7ldoScqWmwFt08OH8gGM2uCGMXUJ_OLWxlS78Phxxw/s400/DSCN8659.JPG" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't know much about it, 8014 & JAPAN are the only markings on it ... though upon closer inspection I discovered what appears to be initials (at) near the left side of the girl's gown in the first photo. No matter ... it's the cat's pajamas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/92283792/dog-desk-mate-vintage-1950s-black" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCyXD1m967Hrs1AN7YywOeFDJrTv9c9g8NEfkbPJc8kS0ePJu1Ya1khjmTPZmf4rII4FQid9ovXUhyphenhyphenhCsXZCeANu1CPHUjt6Htf7610vP6XrbuDophfmKGkT2z1FVj86adQs_BkaA71o7h/s400/DSCN8653.JPG" width="397" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I found this little ceramic desk organizer also & since that mug had to be mine I braved the line (22 minutes worth plus two screaming babies behind me ... yay) & brought them home. Until it sells my little picture of Spoofy & Catherine will be displayed in style. It has a hole in its rump to hold a pen & a hole at the top of its head that used to hold an eraser (the gal at the thrift shop said that some little kid made away with it).</div>
